Course: Learner Language – Error Analysis and Assessment

Course description: This course gives an insight to the theory and research in the field of interlanguage, enabling students to understand better the whole process of foreign language acquisition. Through numerous practical assignments the course qualifies its participants for the analysis and evaluation of written and oral productions of learners of German as a foreign language.

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to: define the term interlanguage and explain the development of the theory of interlanguage, name and identify the causes of error occurrence as well as analyze and interpret written and oral assignments of learners of German as a foreign language (GFL), react properly on errors as well as apply suitable correction procedures, give feedback and advice to GFL learners, determine the level of language proficiency of GFL learners according to CEFR and prepare them for the Croatian version of the A-level exam as well as for the National competition in German as a foreign language.

Teaching methods: teaching through seminars and teacher-led demonstrations in the classroom, presentations, classroom discussion, cooperative learning, E-Learning (Omega, etc.)

Evaluation Methods and Grading: class attendance, seminar paper or presentation, written exam and written and oral assignements during the semester.
