Course description: This seminar is intended to introduce basic issues and concepts of the function and structure of text types. It covers following topics: text, text types and criteria for their differentiation, weather forecast, horoscope, instruction manual, commercial, advertisement, joke.

Learning outcomes: Upon completion of the course students are expected to be able to: apply the analytical framework of text linguistics on concrete texts, compare various text types in German and Croatian and define their similarities and differences, detect and explain the conventional criteria used in the text-linguistic analysis, identify the text type according to the typical linguistic constructions, define and enumerate the semantic, syntactic and stylistic features of the text types covered in class, revise inadequate texts to meet the standards of textuality.
