Course: Introduction to the Methodology of Teaching German - Acquisition of German as Second and Foreign Language

Course description: This course offers fundamental theoretical knowledge of teaching German as a foreign language. During the course students will acquire competences in didactics and methods in foreign language teaching, individual and contextual factors in language acquisition and language learning as well as teaching German as a foreign language in the context of related disciplines.

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to effectively use their knowledge in the following areas: didactics and methods in foreign language teaching, individual and contextual factors in language acquisition and language learning, teaching German as a foreign language in the context of related disciplines. They will be able to explain the didactical, pedagogical, historical, psychological, psycholinguistic, language policy, intercultural and other aspects of TFL. Students will be able to apply theories of language acquisition, theories of foreign language learning, multilingualism, elements of language acquisition such as motivation, language ability, approaches, language needs, and intervention options.
