Course: Translation Exercises III

Enrolment requirements: courses “Translation Exercises I” and “Translation Exercises II”

Course description: This course focuses on individual and group translations of authentic texts from different fields: media, business practice and regulations. The topics to be covered are business and law (economic data, trends, annual reports, business transactions, legislation, etc.). Texts are translated from German to Croatian and vice versa.

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to: distinguish text characteristics and text functions, use parallel texts, reliable sources, reference books and internet, put basic translation techniques into practice using contrasting methods; they will develop translation strategies accordingly.

Teaching methods: teaching through exercises and seminars, classroom discussion, presentations, individual work, E-learning (Omega)

Evaluation Methods and Grading: class attendance and active participation, weekly assignments (short translations, about 1000-1500 characters), two translations (about 6,000 characters; from Croatian to German and vice versa), written exam
