Course: Introduction to the Study of Dutch ECTS credits: 3 Language: Dutch Duration: one semester Status: obligatory Course type: 2 hours of lecture Course description: This course offers an introduction to the basic themes and problems that Dutch linguistics is dealing with. Learning outcomes: Students will be able to: name and describe the main types of language; independently determine which language type belongs to the major European languages; name and determine the main features of the Dutch language in the major linguistic periods; categorize and describe the historical development of the Dutch language from 700 to the present day; define sociolinguistic differences between the Dutch language in Belgium and the Netherlands.
