Course description: This course covers following topics: 1. Enlightment in European and German Cultural History. An Introduction; 2.-3. poetry of Enlightment; 4.-5. theory of Enlightment. Gottsched. Gellert, Bodmer, Breitinger; 6. G. E. Lessings literary horizonts; 7. Herder and Anticlassicism; 8.-9. Goethe and Sturm und Drang; 10-11. Schillers theory and drama; 12.-13 Weimarer Classic; 14.-15. Schiller in Weimarer Classic.

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to: understand and describe literary texts in the context of their occurrence and impact (social, esthetic, cultural, medial and biographical aspects) and to understand the peculiarities of different literary types and forms.
