Course description: This course focuses on working with printed texts and those accessible in the internet. Students will be acquainted with extraction techniques, linguistic coining and digital storage of terminological data. Students will not only acquire classical extraction techniques, but they will also learn about methods of digital term extraction with the help of non-commercial digital tools like AntConc and Sketch Engine. This course covers topics which will encompass political systems and government institutions of German speaking countries and Croatia.

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to: differentiate between technical terms and general terms in the German and Croatian language, identify technical terms in texts on political and historical subjects referring to German speaking countries and to Croatia, define the grade of technicity for various text types, use technical terms in compliance with a given text type in German and in Croatian, create the definition of a technical term in German and in Croatian, apply different methods for coining technical terms in German and Croatian, determine on equivalents for specific technical terms in German and Croatian, create a glossary for a short technical text of up to 10 pages applying principles of terminology, terminography and lexicography.

Teaching methods: teaching through seminars/exercises, teacher-led demonstrations in the classroom, presentations, classroom discussion, production of glossaries, both through group work and individual work, peer evaluation
