Course: German-Croatian Language Contacts in Burgenland ECTS credits: 3 Language: German Duration: one semester Status: elective Course type: 1 hour of seminar, 1 hour of lesson Course description: This course offers an insight in the language of Burgenland Croats with a special emphasis on the elements of Burgenland Croatian influenced by (Austrian) German. The course introduces students to key concepts in the field of language contact, study methods and their application in the linguistic analysis of various texts. Learning outcomes: Students will be able to: recognize key phenomena in the field of language contact, compare linguistic phenomena in Burgenland Croatian to various phenomena in the language and dialects of other Croatian communities outside Croatia, apply methods of analysis used in studies in the field of language contact, transcribe TV shows and interviews with informants from Burgenland and conduct language biographical (narrative) interviews with informants.
