dr. sc. Ivana Peruško, docentica

Ivana Peruško (born in 1979 in Pula, Croatia) graduated in 2004 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, with an M.A. in Russian Language and Literature and Croatian Language and Literature. In 2005, Ivana joined the Department of East Slavic Languages and Literatures as a researcher-assistant, where she is still working as an assistant professor (docent).

From 2007 to 2008 she lived and worked in Moscow, where she worked as a Croatian language instructor at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and she had several professional trainings in Russia: at the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2008, at the Pushkin National Russian Language Institute in 2009, at the Irkutsk National Technical University in 2011 and others.

She gained her PhD at the University of Zagreb in 2011 with her thesis Writer and Power in Essays and Feuilletons of Maxim Gorky and Mikhail Bulgakov (1917 – 1924).

From 2018 to 2020 she held the position of the Department Chair at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Ivana won three professional awards: Annual Award for Young Scientists in 2013 (Society of University Teachers, Scholars and Other Scientists) for her monograph Poetics of Exile. Gorky and Bulgakov between the Hammer and the Sickle; Lapis Histria International Literary Award (2008) and Badalić Award for the student of the Year (2004).

In 2013 her monograph Poetika prognstva. Gor’kij i Bulgakov između srpa i čekića (Poetics of Exile. Gorky and Bulgakov between the Hammer and the Sickle, Naklada Ljevak) was published. In 2018, she published her second book Od Oktobra do otpora. Mit o Mit o sovjetsko- jugoslavenskom bratstvu u Hrvatskoj i Rusiji kroz književnost, karikaturu i film. 1917.–1991. (From October to Resistance. The Myth of Yugoslav-Soviet Brotherhood in Literature, Cartoons and Cinema. 1917 – 1991, Fraktura).

She is also an author, editor and translator. She translates from Russian and Italian. Her translation of Viktor Shklovsky’s A Sentimental Journey: Memoirs 1917-1922 was shortlisted for the Best Book in Croatia in 2019 at the Pula’s book fair Book Fair(y) in Istria 2019.
