Marija Popović was born in 1979 in the city of Sochi in Russia. After completing her MA in Russian and French language and literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb she conducted research as a French government scholarship recipient at the Sorbonne Paris IV University for the needs of her diploma thesis French-Croatian Dictionary of Diplomatic Vocabulary. From 2007 to 2008, she completed a Master’s degree in CIMER (Intercultural Communication and Museology in Renewed Europe) at the Sorbonne Paris IV. She has earned a PhD in Croatian culture and defended her dissertation Beverages in Croatian and Russian proverbs. 2010.-2011. and 2020.-2021. she worked as an external associate at the Department of Russian Language, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. She has taught French and Russian in primary school, at various foreign language schools and the Zagreb   School   of   Economics   and   Management, where   she   taught Business French and Business Russian. Her research interest focuses on the paremiology.
