Joyce in Other Places, Other Forms

As part of the Bloomsday celebrations in Zagreb and Pula, 16-17 June 2012, the Department of English at the University of Zagreb will host a one-day graduate conference (16 June 2012) on the theme ‘Joyce in Other Places, Other Forms’.

Keynote Speakers: Prof. Ljiljana Ina Gjurgjan (University of Zagreb),

others TBA

Joyce’s work is a complex layering of diverse vocabularies and forms and this conference will explore the possibilities and problems that this has created for different interpretations of these texts (translations, artistic re-workings, new media representations, etc.). With the expiration of the copyright, the potential to reinterpret Joyce’s published works in a variety of ways has increased exponentially. This conference looks to chart some of the directions these re-workings might take and how these may vary in different places. It also seeks to consider the history of Joyce’s engagement with translation, cinema, theatre, popular culture, etc..
